Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School
“Where Everyone Believes and Achieves”
Home of the Stallions
Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School is architecturally designed on a school-within-a-school concept. Schools-within-schools create individualized communities to support constructive relationships between and among students and adults. Like academies, students are grouped and take core courses with the same teachers, thus increasing academic and social support from peers, teachers, and support personnel. An advisory system is also part of the school’s culture. Advisory systems are organized to personalize the middle school experience and encourage social and academic success through small group meetings. Advisory activities may include helping students develop personal plans, introducing students to career clusters, helping students with self-esteem and self-awareness issues, and working with students on postsecondary plans and pre-employment skills. The system also ensures that at least one adult knows each student on campus, providing advocacy and positive rapport.
A comprehensive middle school, Anderson Middle offers elective courses in Band, Music, Art, Home Economics, Business and Typing Skills, Physical Education, and Health. Spanish I and Algebra I Honors are also offered to eight grade students as a high school credit. Participation in the Fine Arts is encouraged, as students have the opportunity to display talent in drama and theater, as well as music and dance.
Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School is a complete middle school complex consisting of five buildings arranged in a circular pattern with a large courtyard in the center. Three of the buildings (Building 2, 3, and 4) are two story structures that house most of the classrooms. The remaining two buildings are one-story and house the cafeteria/kitchen, administration and gymnasium. The facility includes: classrooms equipped with audio enhancement and video projection infrastructure, three science labs surrounded by science classrooms, a CCTV production room, a baseball field, and a multi-purpose field.
